Our History

The American Institute of Park Executives (AIPE)/Academy Foundation and Trust resulted from a meeting of past members of the early AIPE. This group, along with their colleagues from the American Academy of Park and Recreation Administration, provided the initial funds and serve as the founders for the Foundation.

It was the desire of the founders to preserve the AIPE name to acknowledge the national focus of AIPE as a forerunner of the National Recreation and Park Association.

Our Mission

To accumulate, invest and distribute capital to further the public’s interest and appreciation for public park and recreation services.

These activities include, but are not limited to, educational opportunities (meetings, symposia, conferences, forums, etc.) and sponsored research in cooperation with educational institutions and other organizations when appropriate.

Our Goals

To conduct research, publish scholarly papers and sponsor seminars related to the advancement of park and recreation administration.
To advance knowledge related to the administration of parks and recreation.
To encourage scholarly to enhance the practice of park and recreation administration and to promote broader public understanding of the importance of parks and recreation to the public good.

The AIPE/American Academy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the programs of the Academy. It is organized exclusively for charitable and education purposes in order to provide funds for support of research, education and professional development in the field of parks and recreation.
