Daniel J. Stencil

Daniel J. Stencil is the Executive Officer of the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission in Oakland County, Michigan. He oversees a 14 park, nearly 7,000-acre system that serves two million annual visitors. Stencil is responsible for an annual operating budget of $28,111,556. Stencil joined OCPR in 1977 as an assistant park supervisor and excelled through the ranks until he was named to this current position in 2006. He oversees 75 full-time and nearly 700 part-time employees who are responsible for two campgrounds, five golf courses, three dog parks, two water parks, two nature centers, a farmer’s market, a mobile recreation program and nearly 80 miles of trails. In summer 2020, OCPR will open an off-road vehicle park in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. His professional involvement includes years of service to the Michigan Recreation and Park Association, the Michigan Association of County Parks and Recreation Officials, the Clarkston Area Optimists Club and the National Ski Patrol. Stencil is a graduate of Northern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Park Management and Recreational Planning. He earned a master’s degree in Recreation Administration from Western Illinois University. Additionally, Stencil obtained the Certified Parks and Recreation Professional and Certified Parks and Recreation Executive from the National Recreation and Park Association. He is married to Susan and the father of Andrew, Bradley, Kate and Sarah. He enjoys golf, yoga, traveling and spending time with family. He has competed nationally in the Senior Olympics.
