J. Thomas Lovell, Jr., CPRP is the Administrator of Lee's Summit Parks & Recreation in Lee's Summit, Missouri (1979-Present). Lee's Summit is the fastest growing city in Missouri with a current population of 85,000. He has also served as the Director for Bristol, Tennessee Parks and Recreation (1976-1979) and the Superintendent for Parks and Recreation in Russellville, Alabama (1973-1976). He received his B.S. from the University of Montevallo in Alabama in 1971 and his M.A. from Central Michigan University in 1980. His national level affiliations include active membership since 1978 in NRPA. He has served on the Professional Development Task Force for NRPA and Supervisors Management School. Currently he sits on the Board of Regents for the Revenue Management and Development School as Chair and instructor and is a National Assessor for Accreditation of Local Public Parks and Recreation Agencies. Mr. Lovell has served as an instructor for the Revenue Management Institute in Toronto, Canada. He has had several articles published in Parks and Recreation Magazine as well as other professional periodicals. Published articles include "Succession Planning", 2003, "Following the Leaders", 2002, and "Teen Spirit, A Successful Activity Program for Teens", 1993. Within the state and local level, he was a founding member and chairman of the Kansas City Metro Parks and Recreation Directors Association. He is an active member in the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association, the Lee;' Summit Rotary and Optimist Clubs and a Board Member for the Missouri Central Credit Union to name a few. Mr. Lovell was recognized by the University of Montevello in 2005 as recipient of the Nathalie Molton Gibbons Alumni Achievement Award and received the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association "Fellow of the Year" award in 2002.
