Foundation

The Back Story

Formerly the American Institute of Park Executives Academy Foundation and Trust, the American Parks & Recreation Foundation was born out of one simple idea – to advance the public parks and recreation services arena.

Together, past members and their American Academy for Park & Recreation Administration (AAPRA) colleagues worked in unison to provide initial funds and actively serve as the founders for the foundation.

The Purpose

Driven by a vision to expand the park and recreation industry and profession, the foundation earmarks resources toward the following:

Research - To conduct research, publish scholarly papers and sponsor seminars related to the advancement of park and recreation administration.

Knowledge - To advance knowledge related to the administration of parks and recreation.

Education - To encourage educational resources to enhance the practice of park and recreation administration, and to promote broader public understanding of the importance of parks and recreation to the public good.
