Dan Newport retired after 34 years of experience. Newport is a certified leisure professional and recently retired from the Winnetka Park District after 20 years of service as Director of Parks and Recreation. He served as superintendent of recreation for the Elmhurst Park District, Elmhurst, Illinois for 10 years and worked for the Village of Oak Park, Illinois as Assistant Director for Recreation and as a NRPA Intern. He is a graduate of Western Illinois University with a B.S. in Park and Recreation Administration, and a graduate of University of Illinois with a M.S. in Leisure Studies. Newport served on the NRPA Board of Trustees for six years and on the Illinois Park and Recreation Association Board of Directors for eight years and as state president in 1981.
