Richard C. Stevenson is the former Associate Director of Parks and Recreation of the Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). Mr. Stevenson is a graduate of the University of Maryland, with a B.S. in Recreation, and received a Master’s Degree from Morgan State University in Recreation. Included in projects and facilities which Mr. Stevenson planned/developed/managed are Fairland Aquatics Center, Fairland Athletic Complex (gym and tennis), pools, ice rinks, the Show Place Arena, Prince George’s Baseball Stadium (Double A) and the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant.
Prior to joining the M-NCPPC, Stevenson was Director of Recreation for the City of Greenbelt, Maryland. He was the First Director of Parks and Recreation in Loudoun County, Virginia, where he developed the County Park Acquisition Master Plan. He was Director of Parks and Recreation for the New Town of Columbia, Maryland, and was responsible for development of the 3,2000-acre park system–10 pools, 2 golf courses, and 12 community buildings.
Stevenson has been a visiting instructor at the University of Maryland, Catonsville Community College, the University of Baltimore, the University of Northern Colorado, and Frostburg State. He has headed the Parks Curriculum Advisory Committee at University of Maryland.
Stevenson is a past member of the Board of Regents of the School of Sports Management, and a past member of the Board of Regents of the Revenue Sources Management School. Both schools are jointly sponsored by the National Recreation and Park Association and North Carolina State University.
As a member of the Maryland Recreation and Parks Association (MRPA), Stevenson has served as Chairman of the University of Maryland/MRPA Scholarship Committee, and as President and Treasurer of the Association. He has been designated twice as the Outstanding Member during a quarterly period of the membership year.
Stevenson has been President of Maryland Babe Ruth Baseball as well as a member of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Directors of Babe Ruth Baseball. He played baseball at the University of Maryland and was player coach of teams in the Tri-County (Maryland) Semi-Pro League. He was also Commissioner of Washington, D.C. Slo-Pitch Softball and is a member of the Washington, D.C. Slo-Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.
