Katherine Bradshaw Chappelear served as the Superintendent of Recreation for the City of Sunnyvale, California, where she was responsible for planning and implementing city-wide recreation programs. Under her guidance the department won a number of arts from state and national organizations. She also held the same position with the City of Palo Alto, California, and served as a Recreation Supervisor and then Acting Superintendent of Recreation with City of Daly City. She earned a B.S. degree in recreation from Pittsburg State University and an M.S. from San Francisco State University. She was an active member of NRPA and California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS). She received the Fellowship Award from CPRS in 1983, and the District IV Professional Award, also from CPRS, in 1982. She made a number of speeches to professional and education institution audiences.
