Bob Bierscheid, president of Bierscheid Consulting, retired from the City of Saint Paul, MN as Director of Parks and Recreation in 2009 after eight years in that position. Prior to that he served as Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Roseville, MN (1987-2002), Assistant Director of Community Education, Roseville Area Schools (1985-1986), Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Roseville (1980-1984); Director of Parks, Recreation & Community Education for the City of Marshall, MN (1977-1980); and Recreation Director in Hillsborough, CA (1974-1977). He holds a B.S. from the University of Iowa, and M.Ed. from Temple University.
He has won numerous awards and honors: 2008 NRPA Great Lakes Region Outstanding Professional Award; 2000 and 2006 National Recreation and Park Association Gold Medal Award; 1995 Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association (MRPA) Outstanding Professional Award; 1991 North Suburban Gavel Club Leadership Award; Accreditation by National Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies Roseville 1995, 2000 (Roseville was one of the first eight agencies in the United States to be accredited); Saint Paul 2003, 2008; and 18 MRPA Awards of Excellence from 1992 thru 2008.
Bierscheid is a member of the American Academy for Park & Recreation Administration; member of the Sajai Foundation Board of Directors. He served as Chair, National Alliance For Youth Sports Board of Directors 1982-2008; Vice-Chair, Commission for Accreditation of Parks & Recreation Agencies-2000-2008; President (1991), Past President (1992), Vice President (1990) and Treasurer (1983-84)- Minnesota Recreation and Park Association. Other leadership roles include: Chair, 1995, 2000 Star of the North State Games Organizing Committee; Chair, 1999, Junior World Speedskating Championships Organizing Committee; Board of Directors (1996-2002) Minnesota Recreation and Parks Foundation; Roseville Central Park Foundation Board of Directors (1987-2002, 2009-present); Chair, World Cup Speedskating Organizing Committee (1995, 1997); St. Rose of Lima Church Council (1988-89); Metropolitan Regional Arts Council -Treasurer (2002-2010); 2010 NRPA Minneapolis Congress Local Host Committee-Off Site Institutes Chair; and St. Paul Public Art Board of Directors (Chair 2009) (2006-present).
