Lori Daniel has developed and directed the city of Aurora recreation services since 1972, managing a $10 million budget, 55 regular, 675 temporary employees and over 1600 volunteers, 21 facilities and 8,000 programs annually. Lori graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a B.S. degree in Recreation, completed post graduate courses, and regularly participates in professional development schools, conferences and the National Certification Plan.
Lori’s professional service involvement includes … past president of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), NRPA Trustee for 6 years, past chair of NRPA Strategic Planning, Governance Reduction, Executive Committee and served on many NRPA committees, member of the NRPA Ambassadors, joined NRPA in 1972; past president Colorado Park & Recreation Association, (CPRA) served in all elected offices and many committees; past board of regents/instructor, Rocky Mountain Revenue Management School; past member Midwest Regional Council and committees; NRPA National Forum delegate and past chair (twice); past chair NRPA Council of Affiliated Presidents; past president American Park & Recreation Society (APRS), Board of Directors and committees; member American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration & past board member, past President (2011/2012, past member National Symposium on Park & Recreation Administration; member American Camp Association, active Visitor for Camp & Site Accreditation; four year judge and chair of the National Gold Medal Awards.
Recognitions include … Distinguished Fellow awards, National Gold Medal Award, President’s Award, Awards for innovative programs and development, City of Aurora Manger of the Year, Department of the Year, and Life Time Achievement Award, Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary #1 Sportstown in Colorado, University of Northern Colorado Distinguished Alumni Award.
Lori is married to retired Aurora Police Officer, John; they have 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren with whom they have many outings, events and travels, especially to their Colorado mountain property and the Iowa family farm and relatives!
