Dr. Bill Hendricks

Dr. Bill Hendricks is a professor and head of the Recreation, Parks, & Tourism Administration Department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. His research interests include park and recreation management, outdoor recreation behavior, wilderness education and natural resources based tourism. His experience in the parks, recreation and tourism field spans more than 25 years as a park ranger, employee in the ski industry, and educator. He is currently a member of the California Roundtable on Recreation, Parks and Tourism and the California Park and Recreation Society Foundation Board of Trustees. He co-chaired the 2005 and 2006 National Recreation and Park Association Leisure Research Symposium and served on the 2006 NRPA Congress Program Committee. Bill has been a recipient of the Partners in Action Award from the USFS Rocky Mountain Region and the USFS and International Journal of Wilderness Excellence in Wilderness Management Research Award. His achievements in parks and recreation have also been recognized as an Honorary Lifetime Member and Professional Citation recipient of the Park Rangers Association of California, as the 2002 Cal Poly College of Agriculture Dole Faculty Teaching Excellence Award recipient, as the 2000 recipient of Cal Poly’s Distinguished Faculty Service-Learning Award, as the 2005 University of Utah, Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Honored Alumnus and with a Lifetime Achievement Award from District VIII of the California Park and Recreation Society.
