Janet Bartnik returned home in 2023 to Virginia to serve as Deputy Director
of Parks, Recreation & Tourism in Prince William County, Virginia, where
she is supporting the planning and capital projects division in fulfillment of
community engagement, master planning, and reporting functions.
Prior to the move to Virginia, Bartnik was the Executive
Director at Mountain Recreation in Eagle County, Colorado. Hired into the ‘Western Eagle County
Metropolitan Recreation District’, she shepherded the district through the
reimagination of the agency’s approach to serving the community - rebranding,
renaming, reorganizing, and setting a course toward a higher level of community
engagement and public transparency, partnership and cooperation, cohesion and
consistency, and professional growth.
Earlier in her career, Bartnik engaged four community
partners in Liberty, MO, in a project to study and strategically plan to
address childhood obesity through a Healthy Communities Research Group project.
She worked with the Liberty Park Board to develop a new vision, mission and
capital project plan for the Department and has worked with the Liberty Parks
and Recreation Charitable Fund to receive public charity status.
For a decade prior to joining Liberty's team, Bartnik was
the Director in Raymore, MO, where she sought alternative strategies for
funding and land acquisition, and developed a recreation program for Raymore,
which had previously only had parks. She also previously worked as the Indoor
Facility Supervisor in Clayton when The Center of Clayton opened and has
experience in both private industry and campus recreation.
Bartnik holds a B.S. in Exercise Science and an M.S. in
Sport Management from Virginia Tech University. [updated 5-2023]
