Barbara Elwood Schlatter

Barbara Elwood Schlatter, Ph.D., is Professor of Recreation and Park Administration in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation at Illinois State University. She has been also held faculty appointments at SUNY Cortland and Chicago State University. She co-authors Recreation Programming: Designing and Staging Leisure Experiences (7th edition) with J. Robert Rossman. She was a visiting scholar in Sustainable Tourism at Srinakharinwirot University in Thailand, and has led students on cultural immersion trips to Argentina and Costa Rica. Her professional service has included president of the Academy of Leisure Sciences, president of the American Leisure Academy, COAPRT accreditation visitor, LARNet editor-in-chief, and Boys and Girls Club of Prairie Central board member. She has been the recipient of the College Outstanding Service Award, and has been recognized by the Academy of Leisure Sciences for Outstanding Service as President. Prior to her career in higher education she was a youth development worker in Guatemala in the Peace Corps. [current as of Sept 2016]
