Marc Heirshberg is the Director of Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities for the City of Mesa, Arizona. He is responsible for operations, budgeting, planning and strategic management of the division which includes professional baseball stadiums, convention center, amphitheater, golf courses, cemetery, aquatics centers, parks and recreation centers. Mesa is the 38th largest city in America and the third largest in Arizona stretching over 140 square miles and serving nearly 500,000 residents.
Heirshberg received his bachelor’s degrees in Recreation Administration and Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Northern Colorado and his master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Public Administration from Regis University.
Prior to joining Mesa, he served as Deputy Manager of Recreation for the South Suburban Parks and Recreation District in Centennial, Colorado and as Recreation Director for the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District in Littleton, Colorado. Marc began his career as Certification Coordinator with the National Recreation and Park Association assisting with the implementation of the Certified Playground Safety Inspector program and the “Benefits are Endless…” campaign.
Heirshberg is a Past President of the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association, Past President of the NRPA Student Branch, Past Chair of the NRPA Congress Program Committee, Member of the NRPA National Forum, a visitor for the Commission on Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies as well as other numerous leadership positions on the state, regional and national level.
Marc has been recognized as the Outstanding Young Professional by the Colorado Parks and Recreation Association, the NRPA Midwest Region and the American Park and Recreation society as well as being the recipient of the NRPA Robert W. Crawford Young Professional Award.
In his spare time Marc and his wife Jenny enjoy spending time outdoors, traveling and rooting on their children Eric and Keagan in their sporting endeavors!
