David Bennett

David Bennett retired as the Executive Director of Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission in June 2024.  His career with CCPRC spanned over 37 years, beginning as a part-time recreation specialist in 1987. After holding several positions throughout the Recreation Division, he was promoted to Associate Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, and eventually Executive Director of the Agency. He earned his B.S. degree in Park and Recreation Management from Mars Hill University and has served as the South Carolina Park & Recreation Association (SCRPA) President and National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Innovative Programming Committee member. He was awarded SCRPA’s Young Professional of the Year (1993), Professional of the Year (2017) and the Robert L. Reid Lifetime Achievement Award (2022) as well as The Explore Charleston Golden Pineapple Award (2022) recognizing a lifetime of service to the citizens of Charleston County 

Throughout his career, Mr. Bennett has remained active in a variety of professional and community organizations, serving on various community Boards and holding various leadership roles. Most recently he has served as Chair of the Cooper River Bridge Run Board of Directors, Chair of the Lowcountry Local First, the Bishop Gadsden Board of Trustees, the Jenkins Orphanage Board of Directors, and the Aviation Authority Board of Directors 

He and his wife Cheryl are the proud parents of three adult children.
